January Meeting – Talking Books

JANUARY 20th 2018

Talking Books

We are not just talking books we talking about talking books or audio books as they are really called. Let’s start off the year with our our words flowing verbally for a change instead of on the written page.

You will also note our new line of for our monthly meetings that includes getting back to basics. The writing foundation skills needed by all authors to ensure a clear and easy to read book. These skills are going to be presented by our members so if there is an area of interest that you can help us with please let us know.

2018 is bringing in minimal but exceptional changes to the Gold Coast Writers ‘ Association and one of them is having the workshop relate to the speaker. So thanks to Ocean Reeve this month’s workshop and Speaker’s presentation will coincide with each other.

Audiobooks – the growing trend in publishing.

There will be a full split session to educate the members on audiobooks, including;

  • the process of preparing to record your audiobook

  • an overview of why audiobooks are an important option,
  • distribution and marketing.

We will also hear from audiobook engineer Jarred Doueal from four4ty Studio in Melbourne along with two live video calls from fiction author Julian Green (Melbourne) and non-fiction author Dion Jensen (Singapore) to share their audiobook experience, purpose and insights.

One Comment on “January Meeting – Talking Books

  1. Hi, Ocean and the GCW current Committee,

    Last Saturday we were treated to a great session on Audiobooks. I learnt a lot and now see the value of broadening the market for my readers, I’ve still got a way to go. My speaking voice is very weak, so much so I need a microphone when we do presentations at schools for The Ten Penners.

    I’m pleased to see improvements across the board. Being on a committee can be time-consuming and sometimes a thankless task. I’m pleased to see the enthusiasm and energy displayed. Kerri is a great Editor and Marissa another accomplished writer and orator. Having been on the Committee in the past, twice as Membership Secretary, with Jackie ably performing that role now. Knowing the history of Gold Coast Writers, my membership is 259, so for over 25 years, I’ve seen the different incarnations of the group. I can only say I’m delighted.
